Cultural Proficiency Trainings
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Seacoast Outright’s Educational Outreach Team is now offering LGBTQIA+ Cultural Proficiency Trainings for nonprofits, schools, and other community groups. These interactive trainings introduce foundational LGBTQ+ terms and concepts (gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, etc.) and explore the role of discrimination on mental health outcomes, particularly for youth. Presenters share practical strategies to act as an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, including - but not limited to- pronoun use, allyship symbols, and what to do if someone comes out to you. Questions are encouraged throughout.
The outreach team is now also offering an educator-specific training option that focuses on helping school staff develop a welcoming community.
Resources for Educators
There is a small fee associated with these presentations, but cost should not be a barrier. The team is able to work on a sliding scale to ensure equitable access. Training is available both virtually and in-person.
